One of the many ways I've managed to stay sane over the last couple of months is to create routine in my day. And, if my mood gets the better of me, I know I've missed some steps along the way. I'm trying to set work-from-home boundaries with a healthy amount of outdoor time and unplugging early evening so that Jeffrey and I can focus on cooking and unwinding. But, as I'm sure you all know, by the time evening hits, it can be hard to unwind and settle in for the night...I can fall into the "anything goes" mindset like the best of them...just one more work project, another scan through the fridge, another tequila, etc, etc, none of which are helpful for good sleep. In an effort to create a healthier, deeper sleep, I've started a couple of simple hacks to help me ease into a peaceful evening and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
For me, having a neutral color palette is calming and it's no coincidence that I chose bed linens that blend with our plaster walls. For a subtle color pop, flowers or plants are the perfect addition. Aside from the fact they can constantly change the look and feel of a room by the choices you make, it's also about bringing nature inside. And with the air purifying abilities of house plants, there's nothing healthier to surround yourself with... especially while sleeping.
Another great sleep hack for me is soaking in a hot bath. I've never been one to make it a priority – it's always been more of a luxury when I'm able to carve out time, but as of late, its become something I look forward to as a way to calm my mind and body before tucking in for the night. For an extra dose of zen, I've been adding a capful of Olverum Bath Oil. The smell is heavenly and it moisturizes without leaving an oily residue.
When I do all of this, I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and energized. I try not to look at my phone first thing, which is easier said than done. Instead, I try to make a hot water with lemon, throw on my favorite gown, and sit outside with Jeffrey and Nala, or see what's new with our budding vegetable garden.
I've seen a big shift in my day by doing these simple bedtime rituals the night before. I, for one, need a reminder that perfection isn't always a realistic thing to strive for. Instead I aim to practice a couple of healthy habits a few times a week and surround myself with simple yet luxurious beauty. What are some of your favorite hacks for getting a better night's sleep? I would love to hear!
Happy Sunday! With love,
